For the price these are amazing! Everyone says this is flimsy. When you are assembling the unit the thing feels flimsy. When assembled correctly it is pretty sturdy. People also complain about moving the unit around. If you lift it by the bottom up rights it mixes fine. I feel it could hold a good amount of weight. Assembling the unit can be a bit annoying but not hard. Instructions are crap and there are several tricks that I will mention to help. Definitely need a flat head screw driver. Thin point would be best. If you have the ability to bend the tip to make a pry it would help but not nessicary. Need a mallet, hammer or something you can bang the pieces in. There are tabs on the horizontal pieces that slide into grooves. This can get frustrating because it can go in a bad angle and not install properly. THE TABS MUST LOOP THROUGH PROPERLY OR THE INTEGRITY WILL NOT BE THE BEST. TIP: if the bottom pokes out and doesn't go back in, use the screwdriver to press in the tab as you hit it down. Bang them into place, but if you hit too hard it can dent the metal. Dont need to hit it hard just till it stops moving. The center brace not only supports the wood slats but also provides some needed tension. Bend the ends a little more than 45 degrees, slide one end in and bend the tab by moving the other end to set the other tab. You may have to adjust the tab to get it to go in. You dont want it to slide in too easy. I used the screwdriver to pres the tab to get it in under some tension. This helps with the rigidity a bit. The little slats that join the up rights have four tabs. These can be difficult. TIP: bend the tabs in just slightly so there is some space to use the screwdriver to bend the tabs up. You must bend the tabs up to keep the top and bottom together. TIP: put in the wood slats as you build each shelve. They can be a bit tight and annoying to get into place.Still in box not sureI have to say it took me a little while to put this whole thing together. The installation was smooth but time consuming because the metals have to line up properly. Well, if you haven’t install anything like this before it can be tough but with my experience, it’s ok and not that difficult. What you need is a piece of 4x4 wood, a hammer, and a flat head screwdriver. If it’s difficult to put through the holes, use the flat head screwdriver to expand the hole a little. You would want to put the wood on top and hit it with the hammer instead hitting the bars with a hammer alone. It will bent and won’t be as sturdy. What I like about this shelf is the thickness of the wood and also there are middle bars to help support the boards. Great shelf when you can get it done installed. It will last forever and can handle anything you put on it.I'm so torn on this shelf. Now that it's together in my studio, it's filling its purpose, but that being said.... The metal frame for this is pretty flimsy. When I was putting it together the sides literally wobbled if you didn't pick them up in the middle. The joints to keep the two halves together are a joke too if you try to move the shelf- they just sit in there. The caps for the bottom and the tops of the frame do not snap in, they just kinda sit there, so again if you assemble it in one area they will not be there after transferring it to another area. But, although it was frustrating to assemble and juggle to keep together while moving into place, it honestly is serving its purpose. I've got it loaded with boxes of silicone molds, crafting tools, canvases, and resin. So, while it did seem to be pretty poor quality with assembly, it's actually a decent set of shelves.I have two of these plus many Muscle Rack storage shelves. The Muscle Rack ones are 100% superior to these. These are flimsy, the metal pieces are very thin, and if you don't know how to put a shelving unit together already GOOD LUCK because there are no instructions, just a picture that tells you what pieces go where, but the image is already assembled. I already know how these shelving units are assembled, so it was easy to figure out. However, unlike Muscle Racks that have strong, thick metal bars with real rivets you need to hammer in with a rubber mallet, these metal pieces are thin and use thin wafer like tabs that slide in without much pressure at all. Even when it's all put together it wobbles if you move it. I do not trust the weight limits and would not trust putting more than 50lbs on each shelf. IF that.GREAT for lightweight storage. Definitely get Muscle Racks for heavy items.I have put together 5 different types of similar free standing shelves within the past 10 months. I’m pretty handy and know how to put things together. The directions were made by a 6th grade engineer. They were the worst. I could of doodled better directions. With my experience with similar shelves. I though I could complete the assembly within 30 mins. Boy was I wrong. It’s a medium/light duty shelving unit. Works but if I knew it would take me that long to put it all together. I would of spent more money for something sturdier and has an easy assembly.Nice and sturdy unit once assembled, good value for the money... On the downside, definitely, a two-person job and messing with a screwdriver to squeeze open the tiny slots to insert all of the support bars was a pain in the butt...Got through it but there were some choice words during the process...Instructions are not great but pretty straight forward assembly. Nice shelves
